Just days after Ally McCoist rambled about Celtic 'running things' in Scotland, the Rangers man has now replied to the criticism on TalkSPORT.
Last week, McCoist said: "You couldn't get a bet on them [Celtic] having a home fixture for their final game of the season. They are running the thing up here, aren't they? That's why. They are absolutely running it, mate. They have got four of the last six at home, and we have got four of six away - you couldn't make it up pal."
All teams having to play 19 games at home and 19 games away is the real reason why the fixtures were decided the way that they were.
On the show, which aired on Tuesday, McCoist was read out headlines from various Celtic media sites. The article from The Celtic Bhoys was the first one read out to the Gers legend, and he has now responded to the criticism, clarifying the reasoning behind his comments.
He said: "Shock horror. Ally McCoist getting stick from Celtic fans. Well, knock me sideways! As far as I can remember, it’s happened for the best part of 40 years, me getting stick.
"I mean, there was a part of me winding up [Alan] Brazil. He was doing the same to me. But listen, it’s not ideal. It never will be ideal.
"But as I said before, the one thing that it is, it is exciting. It’s not perfect. It’s never going to be perfect. You can make cases [for all teams]. Hearts fans having to travel to Celtic for the final game of the season.
"And I did mention to you, this probably has less to do with the split… but Rangers go to Falkirk again for the final game of the season, and Falkirk could potentially be in the Scottish Cup Final. So they could be well within their rights to play a weakened side
"But I don’t think that’s got as much to do with the actual split, because that’s Falkirk getting to the cup final. It is what it is. Celtic have four of the last six at home, Rangers have four of the last six away. I’d imagine the police wouldn’t fancy a Rangers vs Celtic end-of-season game where the title could be decided.
"Call me old-fashioned, but I don’t think they’d want that on the agenda! So there could be a number of things."
McCoist admits that it will never be perfect
McCoist also admitted on the show that it will never be perfect and that you could make a case for any team. There are plenty of restrictions that the league bosses face when coming up with the schedule, and it's always going to be difficult for them.
Despite him admitting that he may have gone overboard, his comments about Celtic 'running it' do little to help the conspiracy narratives that are often thrown around up here. It isn't helpful when someone with credence weighs in on the conversation in that way, even jokingly.
The focus of McCoist and supporters will be on the title race, especially now that clarification has been given. Celtic, Rangers and Hearts all have a good chance of lifting the Scottish Premiership trophy, and hopefully, it'll be green and white ribbons on it at the end of the season.
