Ally McCoist's bitter Celtic rant is as ridiculous as it gets

The Rangers legend has claimed Celtic 'run things' in Scottish football.

Ally McCoist's pointless rant has highlighted the real problem with Scottish football, and it certainly isn't Celtic.

Post-split fixtures for the Scottish Premiership were released on Tuesday, and they revealed that the Hoops would notably be facing both Rangers and Hearts at home. This ensures that all teams will play 19 games at their ground and 19 games away, making things fair.

But apparently, that memo hasn't gotten through to some people, as Rangers legend McCoist went off on the league during a conversation on talkSPORT.

He said: "You couldn't get a bet on them [Celtic] having a home fixture for their final game of the season.

"Well, they are running the thing up here, aren't they? That's why. They are absolutely running it, mate. They have got four of the last six at home, and we have got four of six away - you couldn't make it up pal.

"They are playing Hearts in the final game of the season, imagine one of them needs to win to stop us winning the league - do you think it will happen? You better believe it will happen."

Chris Sutton has hit back at McCoist on social media, writing: "How dare Celtic have 19 games at home and 19 away..."

It's quite simple to understand, but seemingly not to accept

It's simple to understand how things work. 19 at home, 19 away. But while it may be easy to get how that works, even more McCoist, it clearly isn't as easy to accept it.

Neither Celtic nor Rangers has been great this season. Under many different managers, both sides have struggled for consistent form. The Hoops largely accept that, and so do most Gers fans, but for some like McCoist, it's easier to be angry.

Arguing that Celtic are 'running it' is just another way of saying, 'We lost out on the league, now I'm upset'. Certainly, this season, Martin O'Neill's side have been far from 'running it'.

There is no rule that the team that is top of the league before the split will play their last post-split game at home. That is not in writing anywhere. Although people on social media would have you believe that it is, that isn't the case.

The worst part of it all is that if Celtic fans were acting like this, if Rangers had gotten the luck of the draw, it's a fact that McCoist would've been telling them to get on with it and move on. Clearly, that doesn't translate when his side wasn't the one that got lucky.

At the end of the day, maybe he's right. Maybe Celtic are cheeky to want to play the same number of home games and away games as other teams in the league. God forbid the structure is fair.
