Celtic’s search for a new right-back this summer certainly continued for quite a while. With Anthony Ralston being the only recognised right-back in the squad at the start of the campaign, it was clear that the Hoops needed to strengthen there.

As a result, the club had been linked with several right-backs over the course of the summer transfer window. Fortunately, Ralston’s brilliant form allowed them to take their time before making a decision and ultimately, they did pull off a big signing in the form of Josip Juranovic.

Another player that they had been linked with earlier in the transfer window is Sacha Boey. He would go on to join Galatasaray though and has revealed that Celtic did indeed want to sign him, although he chose to join the Turkish giants instead.

As reported by Aslan Arenasi (via HITC), Boey said:

"“Yes, Celtic wanted to sign me.“When I had to make a decision, I chose Galatasaray because it was a bigger club. That’s why I chose Galatasaray.”"

Boey chose a move to Galatasaray over Celtic

There’s certainly something to be said regarding the size of the two clubs but without even discussing that, it must be pointed out that both of them will be competing in the Europa League this season.

When it comes to the right-back position, the Hoops must certainly be delighted with the options that they have there at the moment. On one hand, Ralston has been absolutely brilliant throughout the course of the season and it is hard to see how he can be dropped from the starting XI on current form.

But on the other hand, Juranovic is a brilliant player in his own right. He is a Croatian international and enjoyed a spectacular spell at Legia Warsaw before moving to Parkhead this summer. Thus, it will be interesting to see how Ange Postecoglou gives enough playing time to both of them over the course of the season but it is certainly a welcome problem to have two good players competing for the same spot in the starting XI.
