Mohamed Elyounoussi certainly enjoyed a decent two-season loan spell at Celtic before returning to Southampton this summer. And now, it looks like he has found some form for the Premier League club.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Elyounoussi has scored 4 goals and provided 2 assists in just 2 appearances for Southampton this season till now. That is incredible to say the least and should lead to him getting more opportunities moving forward.

It was at Parkhead though that he found his feet after a difficult first season at Southampton. He was one of the Hoops’ few bright spots last season, while he has now even admitted that he found himself and gained confidence during his time at Celtic.

As reported by TV2, Elyounoussi said:

"“I have been mentally tested on how strong you are and should never give up. It was tough, but I am happy with the experience at Celtic, where I found myself and gained confidence.”"

Elyounoussi had a solid loan spell at Celtic

Elyounoussi certainly proved himself to be a very good player during his time at Parkhead and it is arguable that even though he played a decent amount of football, he did not feature as much as he should have.

The Norwegian international was certainly one of the club’s standout performers last season and there were even some rumours about him joining on a permanent basis. That move did not materialise though and he is now back at Southampton, where things appear to be looking up for him.

Someone like Elyounoussi could have certainly been a good fit in Ange Postecoglou’s style of football and it would have been very interesting to see how he would have done in the current system that the Hoops are playing.

Elyounoussi certainly has a great eye for goal and is a very effective left-winger. Interestingly, that is an area that Hoops do not possess a lot of depth in and ended up signing Jota on a season-long loan on transfer deadline day of this summer. It will be interesting to see how the Portuguese winger does there this season.
