Celtic have certainly felt the absence of Christopher Jullien in recent times. The French defender spent the majority of the previous campaign dealing with injuries and has not yet made an appearance this season.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Jullien made 14 appearances last season. And without him, the defence has certainly looked weaker.

While the club have brought in four recognised centre-backs this summer in the form of Carl Starfelt, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales and Osaze Urhoghide, there is a feeling that Jullien will find his way back into the first-team if he can rediscover his form after returning from injury.

It looks like there is a promising update in this regard. As reported by Glasgow Times, Jullien has been included in the club’s Europa League squad.

Jullien has been included in Celtic’s Europa League squad

The inclusion of Jullien in the club’s Europa League squad suggests that the Frenchman could be set to return to action in the group stages of the competition itself. There does not appear to be any timeline yet though.

It will be interesting to see how Postecoglou lines up his side moving forward with the recent additions that they have made. While the duo of Starfelt and Stephen Welsh has started most of the club’s recent games in the heart of defence, the arrivals of Carter-Vickers and Scales could certainly change things up.

Scales can play as a left-wing back or a left-back as well, and it does feel like that it where he could feature moving forward considering the lack of depth in the position at this point of time.

One thing is for sure, the Hoops could do with some solidity at the back at this point of time. Defence has been a worry for the club for over a season and Jullien’s return from injury cannot come soon enough.
