Mohamed Elyounoussi was one of the few bright spots for Celtic last season. And while he had his fair share of injury troubles during his time at Parkhead, all things considered, it was a successful two-season loan spell for the player.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 24 goals and provided 14 assists in 67 appearances for the Hoops. Now, he is back at Southampton and looks in tremendous form for them this season, having scored 4 goals and provided 2 assists in just 2 appearances.

He even found the back of the net for the Norway national team in their recent friendly against Latvia. It is safe to say that things are looking up for Elyounoussi.

During his time at Parkhead, there were quite a few rumours about the club signing him on a permanent basis. But Elyounoussi has admitted that the dream for him was to come back to Southampton and prove people wrong. As reported by the Daily Echo, he said:

"“I have to be honest, that was my dream, to come back and to prove everyone wrong.“But at the same time, I had other offers. I had other opportunities to go and play week in, week out.“That was also in my mind if it doesn’t work. But after the two first games when I sat on the bench, I felt determined to come back, as soon as I get the opportunity I will show him (Hasenhuttl) that I deserve to play.“So I’m really happy that he put the trust in me and that I can pay him back for that.”"

Elyounoussi could have been a good signing for Celtic this summer

Someone like Elyounoussi could have been a good fit in Ange Postecoglou’s style of football. He showed an incredible eye for goal while playing from the left-wing during his time with the Hoops.

There were several rumours in the past which had suggested that the club could try to sign him on a permanent basis. At the end of the day though, as we know, a move did not materialise and he is back at Southampton and playing quite well for them at this point of time.

On the other hand, Celtic have signed Jota this summer on a season-long loan with an option to buy from Benfica. The Portuguese youngster appears to be the guy who will play in the left-wing role for the club this season and it will be interesting to see how he does for Postecoglou’s side.
