It is safe to say that Celtic’s transfer deadline day was eventful. Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie, two players who have been first-team regulars for quite a few years, departed the club. On the other hand, they signed Georgios Giakoumakis on a permanent deal while Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers arrived on loan, although an option to buy is included in both those deals. Three players left the club on season-long loans as well.
Overall, it was a very exciting day. And the most exciting part was certainly the late move to sign Carter-Vickers from Tottenham Hotspur.
The Hoops had been linked with Carter-Vickers for months but it did not appear that a move to Parkhead was on the cards. That changed late on though and the move was announced just minutes before the summer transfer window slammed shut.
With defence being an area of worry for the club, it will be interesting to see what he brings to the table. Jan Vertonghen’s past comments about the defender will excite Celtic fans though. As reported by ESPN, the former Tottenham Hotspur star said about Carter-Vickers back in 2016:
"“He’s still young but he’s an absolute beast. He’s a real defender. He’s strong one-on-one, in the air, he’s not afraid and he can play from the back. That’s the style the gaffer wants to see from him.”"

Carter-Vickers could prove to be a good signing for Celtic
Vertonghen made those comments back in 2016 when Carter-Vickers was just 18 years of age. Back then, he was one of the most highly-rated young defenders playing in England and many expected him to establish himself as a regular in the Tottenham Hotspur first-team in the future.
It is safe to say that things have not gone as smoothly for the United States international. While he has played some decent amount of football in the English Championship over several loan spells over the years, he never quite managed to establish himself in Tottenham Hotspur’s first-team and made only a few appearances for them.
It does look like he is the type of defender who can do it all at the back though. And hopefully, he can show that during his time at Parkhead. Celtic could certainly do with a player like that at this point of time.
