It is safe to say that Celtic enjoyed a very decent summer transfer window. Coming into it, the club must have been aware of the magnitude of the task facing them. The Hoops had finished 25 points behind the Rangers in the Scottish Premiership last season and needed a massive squad overhaul to turn things around.

The club made twelve signings over the course of the summer, with ten of them arriving on permanent deals while two will be on loan, although there is an option to buy included in both of those deals respectively.

The Hoops have already shown a lot of improvement and progress ever since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager a couple of months earlier or so. And hopefully, the team will continue to get better with time.

Thus, it is safe to say that things are looking up for the club at the moment. But they might have made one mistake on transfer deadline day that could end up becoming a worry for them as we move forward this season. And that mistake is not bringing in like-for-like replacements for some of the players who left.

Celtic might have made transfer deadline day mistake

Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie left on permanent deals on transfer deadline day after being linked with moves away for a long time while Leigh Griffiths left on a season-long loan to Dundee FC. On the other hand, the Hoops signed Georgios Giakoumakis, Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers on the day.

As a result, the Hoops appear to have one less option at striker at this point of time. And after topping the Eredivisie scoring charts last season, one would expect Giakoumakis to have a first-team role at Parkhead this season. If that is the case, then Albian Ajeti could be the only other option at striker left at the club, with Kyogo Furuhashi a first-team regular as well.

On the other hand, the club do not have a similar kind of midfielder to Christie in the squad either. While both Tom Rogic and David Turnbull are good creatively and in the final third, they do not have the defensive abilities of the 26-year-old or bring that kind of energy to the midfield.
