Leigh Griffiths joined Dundee FC on a season-long loan on deadline day of the summer transfer window. Interestingly, the striker had signed a one-year contract extension with Celtic just a couple of months earlier.

As a result, most people would have expected him to play a big role in Ange Postecoglou’s side this season. But he found playing time hard to come by and now will spend the season with Dundee FC, a club where he has already had a successful spell in the past.

Naturally, Griffiths would be looking to rediscover his form while away on loan. Many people feel though that we have already seen the last of him in a Celtic shirt.

Griffiths is not of that same view and it appears that he is looking to convince Postecoglou that he still has a part to play. As reported by STV, he is hoping that a goal-laden season will help him return to Parkhead as a player in-form, as he said:

"“That’s the plan.“I’m not going to use the word ‘convince’ because my goal record speaks for itself. It’s just about me making sure that I’m at it every day in training and in games, and showing people that I can still score goals and play well.”"

Does Griffiths have a future at Celtic?

It will certainly be very interesting to see how the season turns out for Griffiths at Dundee FC. It might very well be just what he needs to rediscover his best form.

Griffiths has not been anywhere near the top of his game for a while now. It was last in the second half of the 2019/20 season that he had shown flashes of what he was capable of and enjoyed a good run of form for a while.

There is no doubting that Griffiths is a great goalscorer. When on the pitch, he is still capable of finding the back of the net. According to stats from Transfermarkt, even last season he scored 7 goals in 901 minutes of football.

But his fitness issues mean that he has not been able to get a good run of games for a long time. If he can do that and score a bunch of goals at Dundee FC this season, then he could very possibly still have a future at Parkhead.
