Celtic have already made quite a few additions to their squad in this summer transfer window. It has not been long since the club announced on their official website that they had reached an agreement with Shamrock Rovers for the transfer of Liam Scales.

Other than Scales, the club have also signed Kyogo Furuhashi, Liel Abada, Carl Starfelt, Joe Hart, James McCarthy, Josip Juranovic, Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide.

But now, it looks like the club are already closing in on another transfer. As reported by the Daily Record, Celtic are close to completing the transfer of Georgios Giakoumakis following successful negotiations and the player is set to fly in for a medical ahead of a move to Parkhead. VVV-Venlo will receive a guaranteed transfer fee of £2.1 million with a further £428,000 of performance-based variables.

The Hoops are just one of a number of clubs who have been linked with the striker in recent weeks. But it looks like it is Parkhead where he is ultimately headed to.

Giakoumakis could be a solid signing for Celtic

It looks like Ange Postecoglou has played a huge role in the club’s push to sign Giakoumakis this summer and it is not hard to see why.

The Greek international finished as the Eredivisie’s highest scorer last season. But VVV-Venlo ended up getting relegated. As a result, he has been linked with a summer exit throughout the course of this transfer window and it looks like a move might not be far away.

Postecoglou could certainly do with another option up front, since other than Kyogo Furuhashi, none of the club’s other strikers have looked very impressive in recent times. Also, Odsonne Edouard is being linked with a Parkhead exit.

Giakoumakis’ record before the 2020/21 campaign might be a cause for worry but at the end of the day, if he can continue to perform like he did last season, then he will be a sensational signing for any club.
