Celtic transfer boost as negotiations scheduled for next hours

Celtic have already made several additions to their squad this summer with a few of them already starting to make their presence felt at Parkhead. But it looks like the club could be looking to make a few more signings before the transfer window closes.

One player that they have been linked with heavily over the past week or so is Georgios Giakoumakis. The Greek international appears to be a man in demand at the moment after his spectacular 2020/21 campaign that saw him finish as the Eredivisie’s top scorer.

Other than the Hoops, Werder Bremen have also appeared to be very interested in signing the striker. Rumours have suggested that other clubs around Europe and in the Middle East are keeping an eye on his situation as well.

Celtic appear to have received a boost in the race for Giakoumakis. As tweeted out by journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos, a new round of negotiations with the Hoops has been scheduled for the the next hours:

Celtic set for further Giakoumakis negotiations

It is not hard to see why someone like Giakoumakis could be a solid signing for the Hoops. He was absolutely spectacular last season while playing for VVV-Venlo in the Eredivisie.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 29 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions, with 26 of those goals coming in the Eredivisie.

As a result, he ended up topping the Eredivisie scoring charts. But VVV-Venlo were relegated from the Dutch top division. Thus, the 26-year-old is expected to depart this summer.

His goalscoring record before the 2020/21 campaign could be a worry and there is a certain element of risk involved in signing Giakoumakis even though the Greek international is coming off of a brilliant season. At the end of the day though, he is 26 years of age and entering his prime as a footballer. So, he could prove to be a brilliant signing for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
