Celtic have been heavily linked with a transfer move for Georgios Giakoumakis over the past week or so. Although, they are not the only club who have appeared to be in the transfer race for the Greek international.
Werder Bremen are another club who have appeared to be interested in signing the striker. Rumours have also suggested that other clubs around Europe and in the Middle East are keeping an eye on his situation.
It is not hard to see why there is such interest in his signature though. He topped the Eredivisie scoring charts last season while playing for VVV-Venlo. But with the club getting relegated, he is expected to leave this summer.
It does look like though that Parkhead could be Giakoumakis’ most likely destination. Anthony Joseph tweeted out:
Werder Bremen are struggling to finance a deal for VVV-Venlo striker Georgios Giakoumakis. They’re already looking at other options.

Talks between Celtic and Giakoumakis are said to be progressing well.
Venlo want a 15% sell-on clause included in any transfer for the player.
Derek Rae tweeted out when asked about the situation:
Giakoumakis? I don’t think Bremen will be able to get him. Looks like Celtic.

Celtic handed multiple boosts in the Giakoumakis transfer race
Celtic appear to be pretty much leading the race for Giakoumakis’ signature this summer. Things can change very quickly in football though and it remains to be seen if they can get the deal over the line. Things are looking promising though with regards to their chances.
It is not hard to see why Ange Postecoglou’s side might be looking to sign another striker. While Kyogo Furuhashi has been absolutely brilliant since arriving at Parkhead, Odsonne Edouard has not appeared to be at his best this season. Albian Ajeti and Leigh Griffiths have not managed to impress either.
As a result, someone like Giakoumakis could be a solid addition to this team. Yes, his record before the 2020/21 campaign was not great and might be a reason for worry. But he showed last season that he has the ability to find the back of the net at a high level on a consistent basis as he ended the campaign as the top goal scorer in the Eredivisie.
