Georgios Giakoumakis is a player that Celtic have been linked with heavily for the past week or so. The Greek international appears to be a man in demand though, with clubs all around Europe and in the Middle East believed to be interested in signing him.

Of course, it is not hard to see why. He topped the Eredivisie scoring charts last season while playing for VVV-Venlo.

The club ended up getting relegated though and as a result, he looks set to depart this summer. And a move to Parkhead could be on the cards for Giakoumakis although it appears that he has other options as well.

As reported by Sky Sports, Celtic are continuing their pursuit of Giakoumakis with talks ongoing with his agent. It is understood that the transfer fee will not be an issue for the Glasgow giants. Werder Bremen are also in talks with the striker though while a number of other clubs in Europe and in the Middle East have shown an interest as well.

Another twist in Celtic’s Giakoumakis transfer chase

As reported by the Daily Record, Werder Bremen have matched the Hoops’ offer for Giakoumakis and the German side have proposed a superior financial package as well.

Thus, it goes without saying that things could certainly get interesting. It does look like the Glasgow giants want to sign a striker before the transfer window closes judging by recent rumours. Now, it remains to be seen whether they are able to sign someone.

Odsonne Edouard has been heavily linked with a Parkhead exit this summer and has not looked at his best for a while now. On the other hand, Albian Ajeti and Leigh Griffiths have not impressed this season. And while Kyogo Furuhashi has looked absolutely unstoppable in recent weeks, Ange Postecoglou could certainly do with another option up top.
