Celtic appear to be pursuing quite a few options for a new right-back to vie with Anthony Ralston for a starting place. And there have been quite a few twists and turns in their transfer pursuit already.

Ralston has himself added a twist to the situation with his brilliant form over recent games and a couple of wonderful goals to his name. On current form, it is hard to see him being dropped but a new right-back is still needed considering the lack of depth in the position.

Various players have been linked with the club in recent weeks, and that is a smart strategy considering they do not have a lot of time on their hands and cannot put all their eggs in one basket. Josip Juranovic has been someone who has been heavily linked with a Parkhead move recently.

It was believed that the Hoops were closing in on a move for the Croatian right-back but recent rumours have now suggested that the move might be off the table. There is some fresh hope in the Juranovic transfer race though. Izak Ante Sucic tweeted out that everything seems to be just fine:

Celtic offered fresh Juranovic hope

Manchester City’s 19-year-old right-back, Yan Couto, has emerged as a potential target for the club as well. And he was in attendance at Parkhead for the Hoops’ 3-0 win over FK Jablonec in the second leg of their Europa League third qualifying round tie.

Couto is certainly very highly-rated. But at 19 years of age, he has not played top division football yet. And while that does not mean that he cannot be a massive success, such a move would come with an element of risk with it. He will also be available on a loan and not a permanent transfer.

On the other hand, Juranovic has solid experience at both club and international level, and he could be a solid fit in Postecoglou’s style of football as well. Thus, it does feel like the Croatian right-back would be a more first-team ready signing.
