As the Celtic squad settles into a new style of play under Ange Postecoglou, could we see some changes in the club’s transfer plans?

There is a lot of work and new signings needed to make the necessary transformation in this team. It does look like they are starting to improve and adjust though, with every passing game.

At the start of pre-season and for the two games against FC Midtjylland, the Hoops’ defence looked a bit weak on paper. A couple of young centre-backs in the form of Stephen Welsh and Dane Murray were paired with Greg Taylor and Anthony Ralston as full backs in the important second leg of the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round tie, a game which they ended up losing.

Ralston is someone who had not proven himself as a first-team player yet and many felt that he was a potential weak point in the side. The 22-year-old has already started to prove people wrong though with some great performances in recent weeks and has even scored a couple of wonderful goals.

He has settled in well to Postecoglou’s style of play. And at this point, he is one of the better performing players in the team.

Could Ralston’s performances change Celtic’s transfer plans?

Without doubt Ralston has done well. He has shown that he can be a first-team player. And the Hoops do not need to sign two right-backs as many might have felt at the start of the campaign. But they still do need to make an addition in the position though.

It is still very important considering Ralston is the only recognised right-back in the squad at the moment. But the club do not need to rush and make a signing though. They can take their time and make the right choice, since Ralston is doing very well at the moment.

Aurelio Buta has been heavily linked with a move over the past few weeks but now, recent rumours have suggested that the focus might have shifted towards Josip Juranovic. It remains to be seen what happens in that regard. But given Ralston’s form and assuming a right-back is eventually signed over the coming weeks, the priority can perhaps shift to a different position on the pitch that needs more immediate reinforcements.
