The Ange Postecoglou era at Celtic has gotten off to a mixed start. It is clear that there will be attractive football and the team appears to be improving and adapting quickly. But there are also a number of positions that still need reinforcements.

After a few disappointing results at the start of the campaign, Postecoglou’s side are coming off of back-to-back wins in which the Hoops have outscored their opponents 10-2. It has been a reminder of how good this team can be if some of the current players can rediscover their form.

Kyogo Furuhashi and Liel Abada have started their Celtic careers well, with both of them looking like excellent additions to the squad. Newly signed goalkeeper, Joe Hart, also kept a clean sheet against Dundee, which should give him a lot of confidence moving forward.

The arrival of the English goalkeeper from Tottenham Hotspur saw both Scott Bain and Vasilis Barkas on the bench for the club’s 4-2 win against FK Jablonec in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League third qualifying round tie. In their 6-0 win over Dundee, the Greek goalkeeper was left out of the matchday squad.

Could Barkas be on his way out of Celtic this summer?

As tweeted out by journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos, one or two clubs are on the verge of making enquiries for Barkas:

More from Celtic FC News

According to stats from Transfermarkt, in 23 appearances for Celtic, Barkas has kept 11 clean sheets. That is not a bad statistic at all. But he has not made many big saves during his time at Parkhead and has not looked like the most commanding presence in the box either.

Postecoglou gave him chances at the start of this season, and he made a bright start to pre-season, before making a few mistakes. Since then, Bain has appeared to move ahead of him in the pecking order and now, Hart appears to be the first-choice ahead of both of them.

As a result, a loan move away for Barkas might not be a bad idea at this point of time. Hopefully, the 27-year-old would be able to build back his confidence away on loan and return to Parkhead ready to compete for the first-team gloves.
