There has been a lot of talk about the need to transform this Celtic squad, especially after the disappointment of last season. Transformation, of course, can happen in many different ways.

New players coming in, bringing fresh talent, enthusiasm and a different style of play with them. Kyogo Furuhashi was an excellent example of that for the Hoops against Dundee on Sunday. A hattrick on his home debut and his incredible work rate, helped the club to an impressive 6-0 win and one of their best performances in a long time.

Letting players leave is also important. A number of players have left the club already this summer and some more are expected to depart before the transfer window shuts.

The third way, is to extend some players’ contracts and keep them at the club for the foreseeable future. One player whose recent performances most probably should make the club think about doing that is Ryan Christie.

Celtic have big Christie decision to make

Christie might very well be the most important player in Ange Postecoglou’s side right now. He has been exceptional this season and although Furuhashi might have grabbed the headlines against Dundee, the midfielder was sensational as well, providing three assists in their 6-0 win over.

Christie’s sublime pass for Furuhashi’s third goal was just proof of his quality. And the Hoops have a contract decision to make, and they need to make it soon.

Christie’s contract is believed to run out in January of next year. There have been a lot of rumours surrounding a potential move away and with only a few months left, something has to happen soon.

After a disappointing 2020/21 campaign, Christie’s performances have certainly undergone a transformation in Postecoglou’s style of football. He seems like the perfect fit and the kind of player that the manager could build his team around. One can only hope that the Scottish international will extend his contract and remain at the club for the foreseeable future.
