Things can change very quickly in football. It is safe to say that the 2020/21 campaign was a disappointing one for Ryan Christie individually. And this summer, he looked very much on his way out of Celtic with less than a year left on his current deal.
A few months on and he could arguably be the most important player in Ange Postecoglou’s team. The 26-year-old has been absolutely sensational this season and looks like a perfect fit in the style of football that the manager wants his side to play.
Thus, it should not come as a surprise that most people want him to stay and sign a contract extension with the club. Postecoglou is no different.
As reported by The Irish Times, when speaking about Christie’s future, pointing to the stands Postecoglou said:
"“I don’t think I need to twist his arm. I’ve already said that if this doesn’t convince him, I don’t think anything can.“I’d love to have him as part of the club.”"

Christie staying would be a massive boost for Celtic
Like most players at the club last season, Christie appeared to be out of form. But he has started this campaign brilliantly and is not playing like someone who is in the final few months of his contract with the club.
In the 6-0 win against Dundee today, Christie set up three goals and has performed brilliantly whenever he has been on the pitch recently. His style of football seems perfectly suited to Postecoglou’s system.
Hopefully, that can convince him to extend his stay at Parkhead. He is arguably playing his best football in a Celtic shirt right now.
At 26 years of age though, this might very well be his last chance to go on and play in the Premier League or another top five European league. Thus, it will be interesting to see what he decides about his future. He could very well be the type of player that Postecoglou builds his team around if he does end up staying at Parkhead.
