Ange Postecoglou’s start at Celtic has not been the best. The club are already out of the UEFA Champions League qualifiers and they lost their opening game of the Premiership season as well.

But perhaps that was expected, considering the fact that they need to make several additions to the current squad. They have brought in a number of players till now. Joe Hart, James McCarthy, Kyogo Furuhashi, Carl Starfelt, Liel Abada, Osaze Urhoghide and Liam Shaw have all come in this summer.

Yet, there are a few more signings that Postecoglou could do it. That just goes on to show the magnitude of the rebuild that is needed at Parkhead right now. Left-back, right-back, striker, centre-back and left-wing are all positions that the Hoops might still need some reinforcements in.

A sporting director is also a position that the club were expected to fill this summer. Several names have been linked with the role going back to last season. But till now, nobody has been brought in. While speaking on Celtic’s official YouTube channel before the game against FK Jablonec and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, Postecoglou said about the situation:

"“My sole focus at the moment is on getting the right squad together. That doesn’t mean that what you’re talking about isn’t important. It is. It’s a priority.“But it’s a priority post-window. I’ve got some ideas and I know Dom’s got some ideas on how we restructure things in the football department, so we’ll crack on with that once the window closes.”"

Celtic to deal with the sporting director situation after the transfer window

Many would have expected the sporting director to come in even before the manager. Then, there were rumours that a sporting director and a manager could come in at the same time back when Eddie Howe was being linked with the Parkhead role.

Now though, it looks like that is not an immediate priority and the club will have a look at the situation following the transfer window. Thus, it means that whoever the sporting director is will not have played a role in the squad rebuild this summer.

For the time being though, it looks like the focus is fully on putting together the best squad possible. And although some things probably could have been done a bit earlier, it looks like things are falling into place now.
