Recently announcing the double signing of a pair of Premier League veterans in Joe Hart and James McCarthy, Celtic have now been told to consider a move for a player who has been linked with a move to the Premier League recently after his brilliant performances.

Josh Doig has been very impressive in recent times and rumours suggest that he could very well be on his way out of Hibernian this summer.

Of course, left-back is a position that Celtic could do with a few more options in. Neither Greg Taylor nor Boli Bolingoli have been very impressive there during their respective times at the club and it is safe to say that Kieran Tierney’s boots are yet to be filled at Parkhead.

Tam McManus believes that Doig’s exit should shatter the club’s transfer record. He wrote in his column in the Daily Record:

"Let’s get one thing straight: Josh Doig shouldn’t be leaving Hibs for anything less than a record fee."

McManus also feels that Celtic should make a move for the young left-back and that he could be a £10 million to £15 million player in the future:

"You could buy him for £5million and sell him for £10-£15M somewhere down the line.Look what they did with Kieran Tierney. It’s hard not to compare the two players because I think Josh is a similar brand to the Arsenal ace and maybe just needs another couple of seasons to really push on.But I’ve no doubt he will continue to develop and sooner or later become a top, top Premier League player."

Should Celtic make a move for Doig this summer?

Doig won the SFWA Young Player of the Year award in May even before turning 19 years of age. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he made 35 appearances for Hibernian last season, scoring once and providing 4 assists in the process of doing so.

It is safe to say that the youngster has done very well till now. But should Celtic consider making a move for him, especially if the transfer fee is around £5 million?

There would certainly be a bit of a risk involved in such a move for a player so young. But the potential is immense when it comes to Doig.

Any such move could depend on what the future holds for Taylor and Bolingoli though, since it feels unlikely that the club would make a move for another left-back if both of them remain at Parkhead.
