Celtic have signed Joe Hart from Tottenham Hotspur. A couple of weeks ago, not many fans would have been expecting that to happen.

But after a disappointing start to the season, and neither Vasilis Barkas nor Scott Bain managing to make the starting spot their own, the club have brought in the 34-year-old English goalkeeper.

Now, it goes without saying that Hart has not been at his best for quite some time now. But at the top of his game, he is an excellent goalkeeper. And one would hope that he can rediscover his form at Parkhead.

Jose Mourinho’s comments about Hart from back in April should excite the club’s fans though. He described Hugo Lloris as the best goalkeeper in England and Hart as the best English goalkeeper. As reported by Sky Sports, the then Tottenham Hotspur manager said:

"“I don’t want to offend anyone, and I hope that people just accept my opinion; we have the best goalkeeper in England and the best English goalkeeper.”"

Hart could be a solid signing for Celtic

While Hart did not get too many opportunities during his time at Tottenham Hotspur, he did perform well when given the chance. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Hart made 10 appearances across all competitions for Tottenham Hotspur last season, keeping 5 clean sheets and conceding 8 goals.

Interestingly, Tottenham Hotspur did not lose any of those 10 games and Hart conceded less than a goal a game on average.

He was pretty much the second choice goalkeeper there but at Parkhead, he would be expected to be the man with the first-team gloves and hopefully, he will relish that opportunity after a few years.

It will be interesting to see how he fits into Ange Postecoglou’s style of football. Hart is a commanding presence in the box, which is a massive positive but he is not known for his ability to play the ball out from the back.

Overall though, the fans should be happy with Hart’s arrival. He is a proven goalkeeper and if he can rediscover his form at Parkhead, he could very well be the starting goalkeeper for the next few years at least.
