Following the start to Celtic’s 2021/2022 campaign, it has been clear that the club need to bring in reinforcements in a number of positions. The club are already out of the UEFA Champions League qualifiers and also lost the first Premiership game of the season against Hearts.

Two of the areas that the club needed to make additions in were goalkeeper and central midfield. And they have done that by signing Joe Hart and James McCarthy.

It goes without saying that both of them have a wealth of experience and are proven players in the Premier League. But they have had their problems in recent times, Hart with form and McCarthy with injuries. But if they manage to find their best at Parkhead, they could prove to be tremendous signings for the club.

One of the biggest questions now will be regarding their respective debuts for the club. As reported by the Daily Mail, Celtic want Hart to travel for their Europa League tie against FK Jablonec while McCarthy will not travel but will train on his own until his teammates return from their European trip.

The dual signings could be a massive boost for Celtic

Hart has not been a regular starter for a club for a few years now. But he could certainly prove to be a solid signing if he can rediscover his form at Parkhead by playing regular football. The 34-year-old is a commanding presence in the box and that might be exactly what the Hoops need right now.

On the other hand, following Scott Brown’s departure this summer, the club did need to bring in someone capable of playing in the middle of the park. McCarthy can certainly do that if he can remain fit.

Despite the two new signings though, the club need to make several more additions this summer. The full-back positions remain areas of worry while they could do with another option in the heart of the defence as well. Another striker might be needed as well depending on Odsonne Edouard’s future.
