Celtic are reportedly discussing move for free agent midfielder

Celtic need to make a bit of a transformation of their squad over the coming weeks. A number of new signings are expected and needed. With Olivier Ntcham’s contract coming to an end as well and him moving on, a further gap has opened up in midfield.

And as has been the case with many transfer windows before this, the club are being linked with James McCarthy once again.

There were rumours about a possible move for the Republic of Ireland international a few months back as well but things went a bit quiet on the front, until now. McCarthy is a free agent at the moment and it looks like the Hoops are considering making a move for the 30-year-old midfielder.

Could Celtic sign McCarthy this summer?

McCarthy is available on a free transfer this summer and he could be a great fit for the Hoops. He grew up supporting the club and already has experience of playing in Scotland with Hamilton Academical. He has represented Everton, Crystal Palace and Wigan Athletic through the course of his career as well. As reported by the Daily Mail, the club are exploring a move for the midfielder.

It is certainly a rumour that has cropped up often. One has to wonder regarding the discussions surrounding McCarthy, how serious or advanced are they? It has appeared that he has been on the club’s radar for a while and hence, why have not they made a move for him yet?

The club might need a midfielder like McCarthy in the middle of the park following the departure of Scott Brown this summer. And available on a free transfer, it could be a very smart move on the part of the Hoops. Now it remains to be seen if they are able to finally pull it off after being linked with him several times through the course of his career.
