Heading into the summer, it was clear that Celtic needed a major squad overhaul. The club had finished the 2020/21 campaign without a trophy and 25 points behind the Rangers in the Premiership. On top of that, there were a number of players who were expected to depart the club over the summer.

And there are some signings that the club have made. Liel Abada is looking like a great addition and if he can continue to develop, he can be a regular feature in this team for years to come.

The fans will be hoping that Kyogo Furuhashi and Carl Starfelt can hit the ground running as well, as they are set to play in two of the most important positions on the pitch.

But even then, the Hoops need to strengthen in a number of other areas. And amidst all the rumours and speculation, Ange Postecoglou has delivered a promising transfer update. While speaking on the club’s official YouTube channel and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, the manager said:

"“I talk to Dom every day. He’s working as hard as anybody to get players through the door. I think we’ve made progress. I’m still pushing it from my end to make sure we get them in as quickly as possible.”"

Postecoglou feels the club need at least two or three key additions:

"“If we can get two or three key additions then we can focus and be a little bit more precise, in terms of not having to bring in players who are going to add to it straight away but can develop. But there still needs to be at least two or three additions that are going to be significant for our club.”"

Celtic have a major rebuild on their hands

The UEFA Champions League second qualifying round exit at the hands of FC Midtjylland showed that the Hoops have a massive task on their hands when it comes to rebuilding this team.

In the second leg, there were a number of players who featured for the Hoops, who had very little previous experience of European football. And one has to wonder if things would have ended differently if the club had managed to complete their summer signings early.

What is done is done though and now the focus must be on the future. Hopefully, Furuhashi and Starfelt can make a difference when they come into the first-team. And the key additions needed must be made as soon as possible.
