There are a number of positions that Celtic need to make signings in this summer. And although the club have already signed two centre-backs in the form of Carl Starfelt and Osaze Urhoghide, they might need to make another addition in the heart of their defence.

We saw Stephen Welsh and Dane Murray start the second leg of their UEFA Champions League second qualifying round tie against FC Midtjylland in the heart of the defence. And while the duo did a decent job, at the end of the day, they are still very young and might need more experience under their belts before they can be regular starters for the Hoops.

Cameron Carter-Vickers is someone that they have been linked with over the course of the past few months. Rumours have suggested that the United States international’s transfer fee is rated at around £5 million.

While there have not been many links with the Tottenham Hotspur defender recently, it looks like the Hoops might end up signing him this summer after all. As reported by the Daily Star:

"Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers is another target eyed by Newcastle this summer. But the young defender is likely to join Celtic before the window shuts, replacing Kristoffer Ajer – who also snubbed Newcastle when swapping Glasgow for newly-promoted Brentford."

Could Celtic be set to sign Carter-Vickers this summer?

The 23-year-old defender’s current deal with Tottenham Hotspur is set to run out in the summer of 2022. Thus, it is very possible that he could be on his way out of the club in the near future. Otherwise, he will become a free agent a season later.

While Carter-Vickers has not been able to make his mark on the Tottenham Hotspur first-team after coming through their youth system and has only made a few appearances for them, he has plenty of experience under his belt, having represented six different clubs in the Championship on loan till now.

Now, it remains to be seen if the deal gets over the line. Signing another centre-back would definitely make a lot of sense for the Hoops though considering the fact that Christopher Jullien is going to be out of action due to his injury for a little while longer as well.
