It is looks like Celtic could try to sign a new goalkeeper this summer. They currently have Vasilis Barkas, Scott Bain and Conor Hazard in their squad but none of the three have been able to convince yet that they can be the long-term answer for the club between the posts.

Barkas made a bright start to pre-season and it looked like he was starting to find his feet but he made a few mistakes in the last couple of games. As a result, Bain ended up getting the nod against FC Midtjylland in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League second qualifying round tie. But he was not very convincing either.

As a result, it should not come as a surprise if the Hoops sign a new goalkeeper in the near future. Joe Hart has been somebody that they have been linked with heavily over the past few days.

But as reported by Sky Sports, Celtic also have an interest in Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster.

Could Celtic make a move for Foster this summer?

Foster is 38 years of age. Thus, it is safe to say that he would not be a long-term solution between the posts even if the Hoops were able to sign him this summer.

But he has played much more regular first-team football than Hart in recent years. Foster has also represented the England national team in the past on 8 occasions.

It does look like the Hoops are looking for a short-term solution between the posts this summer. There are two ways to look at this. On one hand, it might be because they believe that Barkas could still find his feet in Scottish football and want a proven goalkeeper at the club until he is ready to take the number one spot. Or on the other hand, they might not want to spend a significant transfer fee for a goalkeeper this summer with so many other positions to strengthen in as well.
