Now that Kristoffer Ajer has joined Brentford, another Celtic defender is being linked with a move away from Parkhead. And this time, it is Leeds United who appear to be interested in signing the player and have even opened talks for him.

Defence has been a worry for the Hoops over the past 12 months or so. With a couple of signings already made, and a few more expected, things could be different this season though. Of course, it will depend on how the new signings adjust to the Scottish game.

It looks like there could be a worry for the club though. As reported by the Daily Mail, Leeds United have opened talks for Leo Hjelde.

The Norwegian is yet to establish himself in the first-team at Parkhead but is very highly-rated. In fact, he has even drawn comparisons with Virgil van Dijk. As reported by BBC, while speaking about Hjelde a few months back, John Hughes said:

"“Leo is going to be the next Van Dijk – trust me on that.“The quality he has shown, the physical challenge, playing real men’s football and standing up to it – it’s been a wonderful experience for Leo.”"

Hjelde should consider remaining at Celtic

Hjelde, who is yet to turn 18 years of age, has gotten some decent minutes in pre-season for the Hoops recently. But if he is to break into the first-team picture, he will have to be patient.

Even if he ends up moving to Leeds United, another loan spell might be important for him to continue to develop and then, he could possibly make a push for a first-team spot at a top club depending on how he performs at the senior level.

Of course, a move to Leeds United this early in his career might be an attractive option for Hjelde. But a number of great defenders have developed in Scottish football over the past several years. Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney are just a few that come to mind. Thus, remaining at Celtic is something that he should definitely give a consideration to as well.
