Some recent rumours have suggested that Celtic could be looking into the possibility of bringing Diego Costa to Parkhead. Perhaps naturally, most fans feel that there is very little possibility of such a move happening. But if they tried to, could the Hoops actually pull it off?

Of course, the first stumbling block to any such deal could be Costa’s salary. The striker has been at some of the biggest clubs in the world till now. But right now, he is 32 years of age, is a free agent and is coming off of what was a disappointing third spell at Atletico Madrid.

Also, since he is a free agent, the club won’t be required to shell out any transfer fee. Thus, if they wanted to make a statement signing this summer, bringing in Costa might not be impossible, especially on a short-term deal.

Naturally, he won’t be a long-term solution for the club. But we already know how good the striker can be on the top of his game. He has already shown that at both Chelsea and Atletico Madrid through the course of his career. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 58 goals and 83 goals for the two clubs, respectively. And can you imagine him in a Glasgow Derby?

Could a move for Costa be on the cards for Celtic?

Depending on what kind of a contract he is looking for, a move for Costa might not be impossible for the Hoops to pull off. Would it be a good move though?

Costa has not been in great form in the past few years, ever since leaving Chelsea to return to Atletico Madrid. If he was at the top of his game, he would most probably be the best player in the entire Scottish Premiership. Will he be at the top of his game though if the Hoops did end up signing him?

Of course, at this point of time, there are just some rumours surrounding a transfer and nothing advanced seems to be happening regarding a move to bring Costa to Parkhead. And it would be very surprising if such a move did take place this summer.
