Right-back is a position where Celtic are expected to be looking to bring new signings in over the course of the summer transfer window.
At this point of time, it is an area on the pitch that they do not possess much depth in. Anthony Ralston is the only recognised right-back in the squad right now and the 22-year-old is yet to show that he can be a regular starter for the Hoops.
Thus, signing a right-back might be near the top of Ange Postecoglou’s wishlist for the summer. One player that they have been linked with recently is Rennes’ Sacha Boey.
Recent rumours had suggested though that a move to Parkhead was not on the cards for the 20-year-old. And now, it looks like he is set to join Galatasaray soon. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano tweeted out:
Galatasaray have reached an agreement with Rennes to sign Sacha Boey as new fullback. Permanent deal, contract until June 2025. 🇹🇷 #Galatasaray

Boey will fly to Istanbul on Sunday in order to complete his move and sign the agreement.

Celtic have missed out on Boey
There is no doubt that Boey is a talented player. The 20-year-old has a lot of potential. And he could have been a good signing for the Hoops this summer, if they had managed to get a deal over the line for him. But now, that is off the table.
The club will have to turn their attention towards other right-backs now. It is worth pointing out that they have also been linked with the likes of Brandon Soppy, Yan Couto, George Baldock and many others recently. It remains to be seen who they end up making a move for.
One thing is clear though, the Hoops need to strengthen at the back over the summer. It is not just at right-back that they need reinforcements in, but at centre-back and left-back as well. Defence was a worry for the club last season and they will need to solidify things at the back if they are to challenge for the Scottish Premiership title this season.
