Right-back is a position that Celtic are expected to be looking to strengthen in over the course of the summer transfer window. And it looks like they have a preferred transfer target on their radar to fill the position.

It was perhaps one of the strongest areas of the squad at the start of the last campaign. But since then, both Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Abd Elhamed have departed Parkhead. Jonjoe Kenny, who was the starting right-back in the second half of last season, has also left with his loan spell coming to an end.

At this point of time, Anthony Ralston is the only recognised right-back at the club and he is yet to show that he can be the long-term answer for the Hoops there. As a result, it would not be surprising to see them try to sign another right-back this summer.

As reported by the Daily Record, Ange Postecoglou has made a right-back his top priority and Sheffield United’s George Baldock is at the top of the list.

Would Baldock be a good signing for Celtic?

Baldock has decent experience of playing in both the Championship and the Premier League. And the fact that he played an important role in Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United side could make him a good fit in Postecoglou’s style of football as well.

It will be interesting to see though, if the Hoops can get a deal for him over the line. At 28 years of age, Baldock would be a signing for the here and the now, and Sheffield United are believed to be looking for a significant transfer fee to let him leave the club this summer.

It is worth pointing out that the Glasgow giants have been linked with several other right-backs over the past few weeks as well, as it looks like they are keeping their options open.
