After being linked with him for weeks, Celtic have finally managed to reach an agreement with Rubin Kazan for the transfer of Carl Starfelt. The club announced on their official website that the Swedish defender is set to sign a four-year deal.

It looks like Starfelt will arrive as Kristoffer Ajer’s replacement, who has signed for Brentford. And he will certainly have to do well as the Norwegian was one of the best players at the club last season.

Starfelt is coming off of an impressive campaign himself though as Rubin Kazan had one of the best defences in the Russian Premier League and finished fourth.

Talking about the new signing, Postecoglou explained why the club decided to make the move for the Swedish centre-back. As reported by the club’s official website, the manager said:

"“Carl is an experienced player and someone with the attributes to be a real success at Celtic.“He is a strong, athletic and committed defender and will add quality to our squad. I am sure he will be a player our supporters will welcome warmly and someone who will be really important for us going forward.”"

Starfelt could be a good fit in this Celtic team

We have already seen what kind of football Postecoglou would be looking for his team to play in their first leg of the UEFA Champions League second round qualifier against FC Midtjylland. And if that was after just a month of his arrival, the fans should be very excited about what is to come in the future.

Starfelt could definitely be a good fit in Postecoglou’s style of football. He is a ball playing centre-back, who is also good at defensive duels and does not give away fouls easily.

His arrival should also address the lack of options at the back for the club. With Christopher Jullien yet to fully recover from his injury, Stephen Welsh, Osaze Urhoghide and Dane Murray are the only recognised centre-backs available right now. And it is safe to say that none of them have a lot of experience of playing first-team football.

Thus, someone like Starfelt, who is 26 years of age and is entering his prime as a footballer, could be a brilliant addition to the Hoops. Hopefully, he can find his feet in Scottish football quickly.
