Major update surrounding Kristoffer Ajer’s Celtic exit

A number of players are expected to depart Celtic this summer. Kristoffer Ajer is one of them, with just a year left on his current deal with the Hoops.

The Norwegian has been one of the most consistent performers at the club over the past few years and him leaving would certainly be a blow. But at this point of time, it does look very likely. He has not featured for Ange Postecoglou’s side throughout their pre-season campaign.

As reported by Sky Sports, Ajer has completed a medical with Brentford ahead of a £13.5 million transfer. A deal for the 23-year-old has largely been agreed with only the final details to be concluded.

He has been a regular member of the Hoops’ first-team for several years now and will be someone that the club will need to find a replacement for this summer.

Celtic will need to find a replacement for Ajer

Celtic have been linked with several defenders over the past few months and recent rumours have suggested that they are close to getting a deal for Rubin Kazan’s Carl Starfelt over the line.

Defence has been a worry for the Hoops for quite a while now and they will need to bring in reinforcements there. The club have already signed Osaze Urhoghide from Sheffield Wednesday but it does feel like they still need signings all over the backline.

Their transfer plans have certainly picked up pace in the past days with the club announcing moves for Liel Abada, Kyogo Furuhashi and Bosun Lawal recently. But there are still improvements to be made in a number of positions, all over the squad.

The new season is already here though, with the first leg of the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round against FC Midtjylland coming up. And after failing to make the group stages of the competition in the past three seasons, the Hoops would definitely be looking to bring an end to that streak this time around.
