Fabrizio Romano provides double Celtic transfer update
Celtic’s transfer plans have certainly picked up pace over the past few days and in many ways, this is expected, considering the new season is already here for the club with the first leg of the UEFA Champions League second round qualifier against FC Midtjylland.
The Hoops had already signed Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide earlier in the window and recently announced the signings of Liel Abada, Kyogo Furuhashi and Bosun Lawal as well.
But there are still a number of players who could be headed out of Parkhead this summer and positions on the pitch that need strengthening. Kristoffer Ajer is a player who looks set for a transfer away and centre-back is a position that they will need to strengthen in, especially if or when he leaves.
Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the future of the Norwegian defender, and it looks like Carl Starfelt could be arriving at Parkhead soon as his replacement. The transfer expert tweeted out:
Confirmed. Kristoffer Ajer will join Brentford on a permanent deal for €15m. Carl Starfelt will be his replacement at Celtic from Rubin Kazan, done deal for €5m and official announcement in the next days. 🔴 #Brentford #Celtic

It looks like Starfelt will be Ajer’s replacement at Celtic
Ajer has been one of the most consistent performers and an important member of this team for quite a while. Thus, his departure will certainly be a blow and the club will need to find a replacement for the Norwegian international.
It looks like Starfelt will be that replacement. The Swedish centre-back had a very impressive 2020/21 campaign with Rubin Kazan, as the side finished fourth in the Russian Premier League and had one of the best defences in the competition.
The 26-year-old is a ball playing centre-back, good at defensive duels and does not give away fouls easily. Thus, he could prove to be a good fit in Ange Postecoglou’s style of football.
But the Hoops could still need to strengthen all over the backline. Right-back, left-back and possibly another centre-back might be needed, as defence has been a worry for the club for quite a while now.
