As we have already seen through their performances in pre-season, Celtic need to strengthen in a few positions in this summer transfer window. One of those positions is right-back.

The club do not possess much depth there at all at this point of time. Both Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Abd Elhamed departed Parkhead last season. Jonjoe Kenny, on loan from Everton, served as the starting right-back in the second half of the 2020/21 campaign. But his loan spell has come to an end as well.

As a result, Anthony Ralston is the only recognised right-back at the club right now. But the 22-year-old is yet to show that he can be the first-choice right-back for the Hoops.

Thus, they have been linked with several right-backs over the past few months. One of them is Rennes’ Sacha Boey. He has only one year left on his current deal with the French side and spent the previous campaign on loan at Dijon. But it does not look like a move to Parkhead is on the cards for the 20-year-old.

Boey has turned down Celtic contract offer

As reported by L’Equipe (via Daily Record), Boey has turned down a contract offer from Celtic.

Boey could have certainly been an interesting signing for the Hoops but now, it looks like the move is pretty much off the table and the club’s search for a right-back will continue.

In fact, the club have also been linked with Boey’s Rennes teammate, Brandon Soppy. He also has one more year left on his current deal with the French side and if the Hoops can get a deal over the line for him, it would be considered as a major coup.

It won’t be easy though as clubs from around Europe are believed to be interested in Soppy’s signature as the highly-rated 19-year-old looks set for a summer move away from Rennes.
