The Celtic squad that will face FC Midtjylland in the first leg of second round UEFA Champions League qualifying stage tie has been revealed and the Hoops are missing three big names.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Kristoffer Ajer has been left out of the squad list for the first leg tie against FC Midtjylland. The Norwegian defender is rumoured to be headed for the Parkhead exit door soon with Brentford looking like his next destination.

Olivier Ntcham is also not in the squad. The French midfielder spent the second half of last season away on loan at Marseille and his future appears to be up in the air as well. The club’s new signing, Liel Abada, has been left out as well. He featured in the club’s 1-0 pre-season defeat against Preston North End and looked sharp. On the other hand, Kyogo Furuhashi, is yet to link up with the squad and could do so near the end of the month.

It is worth pointing out though that Ange Postecoglou has until midnight to make two late registrations to the squad.

Can Celtic make it to the Champions League group stage this season?

It is going to take some big performances from the players to make it to the group stages of this season’s Champions League. The Hoops have not made it there for the past three seasons. But if this team can find their feet quickly, anything is possible.

The first step will be to put in a good performance against FC Midtjylland at Celtic Park tomorrow. And if they can do it, it will be a massive confidence boost for Postecoglou’s side moving forward.

The Hoops will have a tough road ahead to get to the Champions League group stages this season. If they manage to get past FC Midtjylland, they will face the winners between Galatasaray and PSV Eindhoven in the third round qualifying tie.
