Celtic had gone very close to agreeing a pre-contract with Ben Davies earlier this year but the defender ended up completing a move to Liverpool when the Premier League giants came calling late in the winter transfer window.
It is safe to say that things have not gone as Davies would have expected since then. The 25-year-old is yet to feature for Jurgen Klopp’s side despite a number of key Liverpool defenders being out of action last season. And with them making their returns this season, his chances of featuring are only expected to get slimmer.
As a result, a move away from the club might be on the cards this summer. As reported by The Sun, Davies is set to leave Anfield without kicking a ball.
Sheffield United are believed to be keen on a loan move for the defender. But this could be an opportunity for Celtic to make their move as well.

Could Celtic make a move for Davies this summer?
Defence was a worry for the Hoops last season. And with Kristoffer Ajer expected to depart this summer, they might need to bring in major reinforcements at the back over the next few months.
The club have already signed Osaze Urhoghide from Sheffield Wednesday and appear to be closing in on a move for Carl Starfelt, but they might need to sign another centre-back as well. And if there is the opportunity to bring in Davies on a loan, they should consider making a move for the Liverpool player.
While Davies has not made an appearance since joining Liverpool, he was one of the most highly-rated defenders during his time in the Championship and there is a reason that Klopp’s side decided to make a move for him it the first place.
Earlier, there were suggestions that Davies might stay on at Anfield but now, it looks like a summer exit could very well be on the cards. He is capable of playing at both centre-back and left-back, and could be a solid signing for the Hoops if they can get a deal over the line this time around.
