A new right-back might be near the top of Ange Postecoglou’s wish list in this summer transfer window. While Celtic have made quite a few signings already, that remains a position where they do not possess much depth in at the moment.
Both Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Abd Elhamed departed the club last season. Jonjoe Kenny, on loan from Everton, was the starting right-back in the second half of the campaign, but he has left as well with his loan spell coming to an end.
As a result, Anthony Ralston is the only recognised right-back at the club at this point of time. And the Hoops are expected to strengthen there in the near future.
Brandon Soppy is someone who has been heavily linked with the club in recent times. But it looks like talks are ongoing for Royal Antwerp’s Aurelio Buta as well. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano tweeted out:
Celtic are looking for a new right back after agreement completed to sign Carl Starfelt as centre back from Rubin Kazan. 🏴 #Celtic

Buta could be a solid signing for Celtic
According to stats from Transfermarkt, Buta made 34 appearances for Royal Antwerp last season and provided 5 assists.
Buta has been with Royal Antwerp for four seasons now with one of them being on loan and in that period of time, the team have been quite consistent.
He is capable of playing both at right-back and right midfield, and that versatility could be very useful for Postecoglou if the Hoops do manage to sign him this summer.
Buta has represented Portugal at multiple youth levels and he came through the Benfica youth system. And while there are certainly areas of his game where he could improve further, at 24 years of age, he would be expected to get better with experience moving forward.
He is one of several right-backs who have been linked with a move to Parkhead in recent months though and it remains to be seen who Celtic end up signing this summer.
