Celtic might need to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer. Vasilis Barkas, Scott Bain and Conor Hazard all got runs in the first-team in the previous campaign, but none of them managed to quite convince that they were the long-term answer between the posts for the club.

The Hoops have been linked with several goalkeepers over the past few months. Following the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager, it looked like Mat Ryan might be the man headed towards Parkhead. But the 29-year-old has gone on to sign for Real Sociedad since then. As a result, the the club’s search for a goalkeeper looks set to continue for the time being.

Another player that they have been linked with recently is Freddie Woodman. And there appears to be an interesting update on the Newcastle United goalkeeper.

As reported by Chronicle Live, Woodman has not been pictured in pre-season training so far. The player has been linked with a move to Leeds United recently as well.

Could Celtic make a move for Woodman?

Woodman could be a good signing for Celtic. He spent the previous two seasons on loan at Swansea City and was very impressive for them. Interestingly, he has already spent time in Scottish football, with past loan stints at Kilmarnock and Aberdeen.

It remains to be seen whether the Hoops decide to make a move for Woodman this summer or any goalkeeper in that case.

It is very possible that Postecoglou could decide to go ahead with the options that he already has at Parkhead and concentrate on strengthening in other positions. If that turns out to be the case, one would hope that Barkas is able to find his form.

The Greek international arrived with a lot of expectations last summer but could not find his feet in Scottish football. There is no question about his potential and ability though. And hopefully, he can turn things around this season.
