The gaps in the Celtic squad mean that new players are very much needed. It’s no surprise to hear about rumours linking the club with multiple players. But considering the current financial climate, the club might need to make a number of loan deals and free agent signings over the next few months.

West Bromwich Albion recently announced on their official website that Kyle Edwards was one of the players being released this summer with his contract coming to an end. And he is someone the Hoops have been linked with in the past.

To be fair, Edwards did not feature much for the club last season. But that does not mean that he could not play a role at Parkhead.

As reported earlier by Football Insider, the Glasgow giants are negotiating personal terms with Edwards as they step up their plans to sign him. It looks like they are set to offer him a contract after discussing terms.

Celtic handed Edwards transfer blow

The 23-year-old could be headed elsewhere though. As reported by the Daily Record, Edwards is on trial with Reading and played 56 minutes in their pre-season friendly against Lincoln City.

Edwards certainly has got a lot of potential and the Hoops should consider taking a chance on him if they have the opportunity to do so. He is a pacy and tricky left winger, who can make things happen on the flank. Yes, he does not have a ton of experience in top flight football yet but the 23-year-old could certainly be a good fit in Ange Postecoglou’s style of football.

A player like him could also thrive in a team like Celtic, who will be on the front foot against most teams and give him the chance to show his quality in the final third of the pitch. Now, it remains to be seen whether they can bring him to Parkhead.
