Celtic have been linked with a move for Brandon Soppy in recent weeks. The 19-year-old right-back appears to be on their transfer radar, as the club need to strengthen in a number of positions over the course of the summer.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Soppy has made 11 appearances for Rennes at the senior level till now. But that has been enough to catch the eye of the Hoops. It is worth pointing out that he has represented France at multiple youth levels as well.

The Glasgow giants appear to be taking a clear approach in this transfer window of signing highly-rated youngsters from around Europe. They have already brought in Osaze Urhoghide and Liam Shaw. At the moment, they are also being linked with moves for Liel Abada and Bosun Lawal.

As tweeted out by journalist Ekrem Konur, Celtic have already made a £3 million offer for Soppy. But that won’t be enough to sign the French youngster. As reported by L’Equipe, Rennes would be looking for a transfer fee of around €5 million for Soppy.

Can Celtic sign Soppy this summer?

There is no doubt about the potential that Soppy has. But can he come in and make an immediate impact at the club.

If he does, it would be pretty similar to Jeremie Frimpong, who had come in and quickly made the right-back position his own despite his young age before departing for Bayer Leverkusen in the previous winter transfer window.

The youngsters that the Hoops are being linked with are certainly exciting prospects and have a lot of potential. But they will need to bring in some experience as well, if they are to challenge the Rangers for the Premiership title this season.

While players like Soppy can be brilliant long-term signings, they would be expected to take some time to adjust to a new team and a new league. On the other hand, after losing the Premiership title race by 25 points last season, there will be pressure on the club to turn things around as quickly as possible and return to the top of Scottish football once again.
