Exciting Celtic transfer update surrounding Carl Starfelt

Celtic are expected to bring in a centre-back or two over the course of the next few months. The club have already signed Osaze Urhoghide from Sheffield Wednesday and appear to have Carl Starfelt in their sights as well.

Starfelt currently plays for Rubin Kazan where he had a very impressive 2020/21 campaign as they finished fourth in the Russian Premier League and had one of the best defences in the competition.

Thus, it is not hard to see why the Hoops would be interested in signing him. But recent rumours had suggested that they might not be pursuing the move anymore.

That does not appear to be the case though. As reported by the Daily Record, the club will continue to push to land Starfelt. But they won’t hang around if talks continue to stutter.

Starfelt could be a brilliant signing for Celtic, if they can get a deal over the line

Starfelt could be a great fit in Ange Postecoglou’s style of football. He is a modern ball-playing centre-back, who has brilliant passing and is good in defensive duels as well. He does not give away fouls easily although his aerial ability might leave a little bit to be desired.

He also has great experience, having played at the top level in both Sweden and Russia. Starfelt has also made three appearances for the Sweden national team. Overall, the 26-year-old could prove to be a brilliant signing if the Hoops can get a deal over the line.

Time is of the essence though when it comes to the Hoops right now. The UEFA Champions League qualifiers are quickly approaching and the club won’t be able to pursue a transfer for too long as they need to bring in signings as quickly as possible. They will need to be efficient and effective. Thus, it remains to be seen what will unfold in this transfer saga.
