In amongst all the changes we are likely to see in the Celtic squad next season, there are a number of players who are expected to be looking to make a fresh start and establish themselves as first-team regulars at Parkhead. Could one of them end up being the solution to their problems in front of goal next season?

Some will be returning from injury, others are simply looking to breakthrough into the first-team  picture. There are also a few though who will need to improve on their form from last season and make a big impression on Ange Postecoglou.

That’s very much the case for Albian Ajeti. He started last season very well and looked like a spectacular signing. But that early form faded away after he suffered an injury in the process of scoring and spent time out of action. After that, he was never quite able to rediscover his goalscoring touch.

It was a bit of a surprise though to see the Swiss striker taking the armband in Postecoglou’s first pre-season game in charge, even if it turns out to be only on a temporary basis. His performance was good against Sheffield Wednesday and then he repeated it against Charlton Athletic as well, finding the back of the net in both the games.

Can Ajeti finally find his feet at Celtic this season?

It’s amazing what difference a goal can make to a striker’s confidence. Ajeti netting Celtic’s opening goal in the first pre-season friendly, combined with a boost from Postecoglou’s selection of him as captain could be just what he needs. He certainly responded well with a goal against Charlton Athletic as well.

He is off to a great start. But that was the case last season as well. Now, he will have to make sure that he can stay in this form on a consistent basis through the course of the season.

Staying fit, sharp and alert will likely mean the chance for more games and goals moving forward. The Hoops could also be short of options up top in the near future, with Patryk Klimala and Vakoun Issouf Bayo already having left, and Odsonne Edouard being linked with a departure as well.

Thus, there could be a problem for the Hoops when it comes to their next main striker and they have been linked with transfer moves for several players in recent times. As a result, it could be the perfect time for Ajeti to step up and make the first-team position his own.
