When Ange Postecoglou was appointed as the Celtic manager, one of the biggest discussions was surrounding his backroom staff.

On one hand, it made sense to have people who knew the club already, considering Postecoglou’s lack of experience managing in European football. But on the other, many also believed that the club needed a completely fresh start after a disappointing campaign that saw them finish trophyless after years and 25 points behind the Rangers in the Premiership.

While there are expected to be a lot of changes in the squad over the coming few months, it does appear that the backroom staff will remain the same under Postecoglou for the time being.

As reported by the Daily Record, when asked if John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan would remain in his team, the new manager said:

"“I never thought otherwise.“My history is if there’s good people in the building then there’s no reason to change it.“So far all the staff have been excellent and have embraced where we want to go to.”"

He did admit that they needed to add to their staff, even if not necessarily in the coaching area:

"“We need to add to our staff for sure.“We will be bringing in people at the appropriate time. Not necessarily in the coaching area but there’s other areas we need to bolster.”"

Kennedy and Strachan are set to remain at Celtic

Not too long ago, it was looking like Kennedy’s long run at the club was set to come to an end. Certain rumours had even suggested that he could be looking to manage a club on his own. But now, it looks like he will be staying on.

Postecoglou will be the fourth Celtic manager whose team Kennedy will be a part of, after Neil Lennon, Ronny Deila and Brendan Rodgers. On the other hand, it was only at the start of last season that Strachan became a first-team coach at Parkhead.

It looks like Postecoglou has been impressed with the duo. The Hoops have already began their pre-season and managed to get a 3-1 win against Sheffield Wednesday in the new manager’s first game in charge.

There were a lot of positives to take from the performance and a lot of players to be excited about moving forward. The Hoops will be taking on Charlton Athletic next as pre-season continues.
