Carl Starfelt has been heavily linked with a move to Celtic recently. The Hoops are expected to sign a centre-back or two this summer.

They have already signed Osaze Urhoghide from Sheffield Wednesday. But with Kristoffer Ajer believed to be on his way out of the club this summer, it would not be surprising to see them bring in a centre-back or two more.

As a result, Starfelt has emerged as a player the club appear to be interested in signing. The 26-year-old had a very impressive 2020/21 season with Rubin Kazan as they finished 4th in the Russian Premier League and had one of the best defences in the league. He has also appeared for the Sweden national team on three occasions till now.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Rubin Kazan returned to training yesterday after a couple of days off and reports in Russia claim that they did so without Starfelt.

Starfelt could be a good fit at Celtic

It looks like Starfelt could be a good fit at Parkhead if the Hoops can get a deal over the line for him.

The 26-year-old is a ball-playing centre-back. His passing is brilliant and he is great at defensive duels as well, not giving away fouls very often. But his aerial ability might be a worry for the club, especially considering their problems defending set-pieces last season. Overall though, it looks like he could be a very good fit in Ange Postecoglou’s style of football and it is great to see the club targeting these types of players.

It must be pointed out though that after missing training yesterday, Starfelt has returned to Rubin Kazan training as tweeted out by Russian Football News.

While recent rumours have appeared to suggest that the Hoops are getting closer to a move, it remains to be seen whether they can ultimately get a deal over the line. Pre-season under Ange Postecoglou is already underway and the transfer plans must pick up pace as soon as possible.
