Newly appointed Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira appears to have his eyes set on the Celtic star, with his contract at Parkhead set to run out soon.

As reported a couple of days back by the Daily Record, Vieira would make signing Ryan Christie a priority if he got the Crystal Palace job. Since then, Vieira has been officially announced as the new Crystal Palace manager.

As a result, the Premier League club could possibly make a move for Christie in the future. Having Christie as a priority should not come as a surprise to be honest. Not too long ago, the player was linked with Nice, who Vieira was the manager of till December of 2020.

Christie did not have a great 2020/21 season but there is no doubt about his qualities, which he has shown in the past for both Celtic and the Scotland national team. He is believed to have caught Vieira’s eye with his performances against Rennes back in 2019 in the Europa League, when he scored both home and away.

Could Christie be set to leave Celtic this summer?

With not even a year left on his current deal, the Hoops might very possibly be open to the idea of a Christie departure this summer. Otherwise, he will become a free agent in a few months.

There is no doubt that the 26-year-old has tons of ability. And at his best, he seems good enough to compete in the Premier League. He did not have a great time last season though and will have to rediscover his form.

Postecoglou might be looking to have Christie available in his squad for the Champions League qualification tie with FC Midtjylland, but with his contract quickly running out, the club might have very little choice but to let him leave quickly if Crystal Palace did make a move for his signature this summer.
