A new striker or two might be near the top of Ange Postecoglou’s wish list this summer as Celtic could soon find themselves short of options up top soon.

Leigh Griffiths has extended his stay at Parkhead by another season but Odsonne Edouard’s future remains up in the air and he could very well end up leaving this summer with just a year left on his current deal and a number of clubs believed to be interested in the Frenchman’s signature.

That might leave Albian Ajeti and Griffiths as the only two strikers at Parkhead. On one hand, Ajeti could not show last season that he is the man to lead the line for the Hoops. On the other hand, Griffiths has not been near his best for years now. Thus, it would not be surprising if the club decided to sign a striker or two over the coming months.

Charlie Wyke has been linked with Celtic in recent months. And the club have been told that he could be a ‘top signing’. As reported by Football Insider, Gabriel Agbonlahor said:

"“That team and squad need a hand, and a top striker is a necessity. Wyke could be a top signing and I can see it happening.”"

Would Wyke be a good signing for Celtic?

Wyke was in brilliant form last season. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 30 goals across all competitions for Sunderland last season.

On top of that, he is a free agent now with his contract running out at the end of last month. As a result, the Hoops might have the opportunity to sign a 30-goal striker on a free transfer.

But then, it is worth pointing out that while he was great last season, he did struggle in his first two seasons with Sunderland. 30 of his 41 goals for the club were scored in the previous campaign.

There is no questioning that he is brilliant in the air though. And he is the sort of physical striker that the Hoops lack at the moment. Thus, signing the 28-year-old on a free transfer this summer might make a lot of sense.
