With Ange Postecoglou arriving in Glasgow, Celtic’s transfer plans were always expected to pick up pace soon. But even then, not many would have seen the first signing coming this early.
On their official website, Celtic have announced the signing of Osaze Urhoghide on a four-year deal from Sheffield Wednesday.
The 20-year-old was believed to be wanted by a lot of clubs around England and Europe, but will be playing at Parkhead next season. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he made 21 appearances across all competitions for Sheffield Wednesday last season.
At 20 years of age, it is safe to say that Urhoghide has a lot of areas to work on his game but he does have a lot of potential. While a centre-back, the youngster also has the ability to play at right-back and it is this versatility that could make him even more important to Postecoglou in the upcoming season.

Celtic have completed the signing of Urhoghide
The Hoops have been linked with a number of centre-backs over the course of the last few months. But the name of Urhoghide has not been brought up very often.
Thus, the announcement of his signing today must have come as a surprise to many supporters but at the end of the day, it is great news. The club have lacked depth at centre-back for a while now and with Kristoffer Ajer also rumoured with a move away this summer, Urhoghide’s arrival would be a massive boost to Postecoglou as he quickly approaches his first season as the manager of the club.
Urhoghide would not be expected to come in and immediately become a regular in the first-team though. While he has shown a lot of potential already, he might need some time to adjust to the Scottish game and improve in certain aspects as well. But he can prove to be a great long-term signing for the Hoops.
