Coming off the back of a very disappointing that saw them finish without a single trophy after a long time, Celtic will be expected to make a splash in the summer transfer window and complete an overhaul of their squad.
There are a number of gaps in the squad at the moment but one position that they certainly need to improve in over the course of the summer transfer window is right-back.
Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Abd Elhamed both left the club through the course of the previous campaign. As a result, Jonjoe Kenny, on loan from Everton, was the club’s main right-back in the second half of the season. But with his loan spell coming to an end as well, Anthony Ralston is the only recognised right-back in the squad right now.
Ralston has not showed yet that he can be the long-term answer for the Hoops at right-back though and as a result, it would not be surprising to see them sign someone in the position over the summer. One player who has been linked with a move to Parkhead is Sheffield United’s George Baldock.

Celtic prepared to go big for Baldock
As reported by The Star, Celtic are prepared to pay a transfer fee between £5 million and £8 million for Baldock. But even that is likely to fall well short of what Sheffield United would be looking for.
The Hoops have been linked with Baldock for a few years now and if they did manage to sign the 28-year-old for a transfer fee of around £8 million, that would make him one of the most expensive signings in the history of the club.
But it looks like Sheffield United would be looking for a bigger transfer fee to let Baldock leave and in that case, a move to Parkhead would be very unlikely. As a result, it looks like the Hoops’ search for a new right-back might go on a bit longer.
