Right-back is a position that Celtic might need to make a signing or two in over the course of the summer transfer window.

At this moment, Anthony Ralston is the only recognised right-back at the club. And he is yet to show that he can be the long-term answer in the position. Kristoffer Ajer is also capable of playing there but he is being linked with a move away from Parkhead himself.

Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Abd Elhamed both departed Parkhead through the course of the previous campaign. As a result, Jonjoe Kenny, on loan from Everton, spent the second half of the season as the starting right-back. But now that his loan spell is over, the Hoops might need to sign a right-back or two this summer.

One player that they have been recently linked with is Valentin Rosier, who enjoyed a brilliant loan spell with Besiktas. And with rumours suggesting that he could leave Sporting CP on a permanent basis this summer, Celtic were believed to be one of the clubs interested in signing him.

Celtic have ended their interest in Rosier

As reported by Sabah, Celtic ended the negotiations because the player wanted to go to Besiktas. They have turned to other names.

It is not hard to see why the Hoops were interested in Rosier. He had a great campaign with Besiktas. According to stats from Transfermarkt, the 24-year-old scored 3 goals and provided 7 assists in 37 appearances last season.

But now, it looks like a transfer won’t be happening and the club’s search for a right-back will continue. Recently, they have been linked with a move for George Baldock as well and he could be a good fit in Ange Postecoglou’s style of football. The 28-year-old currently plays for Sheffield United and it remains to be seen whether the Hoops can bring him to Parkhead.

One thing is for sure though, the club need to sign a new right-back sooner or later because that is a position that they possess very little depth in right now, going into Ange Postecoglou’s first season as the Hoops’ manager.
