One of the biggest worries for Celtic last season, appeared to be their backline. Most of the defenders struggled for both form and fitness in a campaign that saw the club finish without a single trophy after a long time.

Next season though, it looks like the Hoops could have a very different looking defence. Jonjoe Kenny, Shane Duffy and Diego Laxalt have all departed Parkhead with their loan spells coming to an end. Kristoffer Ajer is being linked with a summer transfer as well, with just a year remaining on his current deal. While one would hope that Christopher Jullien would be back in the first-team picture once again, after spending the majority of the previous campaign on the sidelines, due to injuries.

Thus, signing a new centre-back could be near the top of Ange Postecoglou’s summer wish list. And it looks like the club could be closing in on one of their targets in the position.

As reported by Sportske novosti, Mario Vuskovic is about to leave for Celtic and the transfer fee could reach €6 million with bonuses.

Vuskovic could be a brilliant signing for Celtic

Despite his young age, Vuskovic already has some decent experience under his belt. And if he can make the adjustment to Scottish football, he could be a brilliant signing for the Glasgow giants.

The fact that the club appear to be willing to shell out that sort of a transfer fee for the 19-year-old just shows that they are fully confident in his abilities and are most probably going to have him as a starter from the very beginning.

Currently playing for Hajduk Split, Vuskovic has managed to catch the eye of clubs around Europe with his performances. A modern ball-playing centre-back, his displays have been mature beyond his years. Torino are also believed to be interested in the youngster but at this point of time, it looks like the Hoops are going to win the race for his signature.
